The first match in the ninth round of the French Ligue 1 brings us two teams that had a completely different start of the season so Bordeaux is currently on the second place, while the penultimate Reims has as many as 10 points less than their next opponent. Let us add that their last year’s duel in this same stadium ended with a minimal victory of the host 1-0, whereas before that they played 0-0 as many as three times in a row.
All this somehow suggests that this could be one very tough and tight match, but when we consider that Reims recorded 2 defeats in the previous two rounds (5-0 and 3-0), then it is quite clear that there is absolutely nothing wrong with their defence. However, last weekend they finished their match against Metz with two players less, after their midfielder Albaek and defender Mavinga were excluded, but they do not have absolutely no excuse for the previous defeat at home of 5-0 by Marseille.
And it was after that match that their coach Vasseur decided to make a few changes in the last line, but since that did brought positive developments we can now expect to see the players who before this defeat by Marseille managed to achieve two consecutive victories, against Toulouse and Lorient. Those are together with a draw with PSG in fact the only points that Reims won this season so it is not surprising that they are currently in the last place. We should also add that the suspended Albaecka and Mavinga will miss this match as well as the injured defender Weber.
Probable lineups Stade Reims: Placide – Mandi, Tacalfred, Bourillon, Signorino – Devaux, Oniangue – Fortes, Moukandjo, Diego – Charbonnier
As for Bordeaux, they can definitely be a lot happier with the current flow of the season, because they in eight rounds recorded five wins, two draws and just one defeat and thus deservedly took the second position in Ligue 1, with two points less than the leading Marseille. However, after a bright opening and three consecutive victories, they had had a brief crisis when they played a home draw against Bastia and defeat away by Guingamp, but they have restored their form very quickly, and won seven points in the next three matches.
So they last weekend mastered Rennes with 2-1 at home, which shows that they continued with their last season’s practice of playing matches with a lot of goals, for which they mostly owe to their coach Willy Sagnol. For this reason, we now expect an offensive approach against Reims, but we need to mention that their defensive players Contento and Pellenard and strikers Saivet and Jussie are still out of action.
Probable lineups FC Girondins Bordeaux: Carrasso – Mariano, Pallois, Sane, Faubert – Sertic, Plasil – Rolan, Khazri, Maurice-Belay – Diabate
Despite the fact that these two teams are currently on different sides of the table, we have here decided on match with a lot of goals, mostly because they in the past paid a lot more attention to the attack than defence.
